A large wall mural recently was discovered in a SoHo loft during the building's conversion into luxury condos, with tags from early-'80s graffiti artists like Fab 5 Freddy and Futura 2000 in plain view. The wall also features writings that are believed to be from the hand of genius artist Jean Michel Basquiat . . . which lead to the sealing of the space like an archeological dig and a call placed to the Guggenheim to check the authenticity. The Basquiat connection hasn't been confirmed, but the wall is undergoing a tedious preservation process so the mural can be moved to a museum or nearby gallery. Who says crime doesn't pay? |
